Nice to Meet You, Mr Glow in the Dark Kitty
Jun 5th

Scientists have created the most amazing thing – glow in the dark kitties! These little guys glow red or green, depending on what type of light is shone on them. They are not only an ideal companion for Halloween – they are also an important part of an experiment which aims to cure feline HIV (and hopefully human HIV, too). The glowing effect is caused by the inclusion of some jellyfish DNA amongst the special gene therapy (for tracking purposes).
All of the original cats are reportedly doing well. Some have given birth to kittens who also have the special glow – which is a good sign (and also very cute!).

It is hoped that the treatment will help lead both medical and veterinary researchers to find a cure. Besides all the millions of people who could benefit from this treatment (and our beloved pets), treatment would also help the wild feline species (all 36 wild species are endangered).
Besides, we think such a kitty would be an ideal companion. I personally would love one for reading in bed!
Turtle With Wheels
May 24th

This is Tzvika. She was badly injured by a lawn mower but the veterinarians at the Wildlife Hospital in the Ramat Gan Safari, near Tel Aviv, gave her wheels. She has been buzzing round on them ever since. We think maybe it is those veterinarians that get the Cute Pics Award for this Saturday.
Lonely Baby Seal
May 16th
This cute baby seal found off a Russian island was just a little different than the rest. It was ginger, not black, and wasn’t playing with the other seals – it was forced to fend for itself.
Luckily, a local dolphinarium adopted the seal, and he is now one happier little guy. Which is a lot like the happy ending of a somewhat more famous fellow golden seal.
Blow us a bubble, baby!
Apr 29th
This cute beluga whale is blowing a bubble to entertain his visitors at the Shimane Aquarium in Japan where he lives with two other beluga whales. Beluga whales live in the Arctic and sub-Arctic waters along the coasts of Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Russia. The whales are known for their playfulness (they like blowing bubbles and spitting at each other), they can swim backwards (unlike other whales) and the high pitched twitter they make has given them the nickname, ‘sea canary’. These beautiful creatures are sadly also a threatened species. You can see more pictures of this guy and read a little about him here.
Sad Snoopy
Apr 3rd

This cute cartoon comes from one of our favorite websites, 3eanuts. 3eanuts takes the classic Peanuts cartoons and simply snips off the last panel – which often contains the joke. What is left is just the cuteness, sadness, and pathos at the heart of every Peanut strip. We wish it was Be Kind to Animals Week every week too, Snoopy.
Cute Dogs Dressed as Other Animals
Feb 27th

There is a new trend in China to not only wash your dog and give them a trim, but also dye them to look like pandas, tigers, or leopards. I’m sure they think they deserve all the attention, but I bet they wonder why a simple trip to the groomer makes it turn on and off so dramatically!
Safe Spot
Jan 3rd

The friends of mine hanging out with the garden brush didn’t believe me when I said the side of a prickly man neck can be just the spot for a hedgehog!
The story of the hedgehogs and the garden brush is an oldie and a sweetie, all in all just too cute to miss, you can read about it here!
Pet Penguin who Buys His Own Fish
Oct 19th
This is quite amazing. Lala is a ten year old King Penguin, owned by a family in Japan. They noticed he liked to walk and is smart, so they made him a little penguin backpack, and trained him to walk to the fish market every day. He buys his own fish there, and brings some home to eat! Cutest video of the week so far.
Impossibly Cute Sloth Video
Jul 12th
This video was shot at the Aviaros del Caribe sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica (the world’s only sloth orphanage). Sloths are at great danger of being electrocuted by power lines, hit by cars, or any other number of man-made calamities. Fortunately Judy Arroyo and her team help them recover. More information about the orphanage is at slothrescue.org.
Thanks, Milly!
